The economical conditions for the professional crew will follow contracts. The trainees will not gain any payment but wil get food & lodging. Sponsoring is a very important way of financing the expedition. Companies will be asked to sponsor one or more members of the professional crew. Applicants with a presumptive sponsor shall indicate that in the application. Trainees will be sponsored in the same way but mainly by private persons. Each sponsor can keep regular contact with his crewmember through e-mail, can have access to the expedition's complete website and can visit the ship for a personal guiding by his crewmember. The expenses for travel arrangements, food, clothing and monthly payment will not exceed 20 000 SEK. Those who apply as a trainee shall indicate whether they have a sponsor at hand or not. During parts of the trip the crew will not have immediate access to qualified hospital care due to the great distances. Therefore everyone on board is obliged to fill in and pass a special health enquiry. For older personnel special health examination might be needed. Everyone is required to have a valid travel insurance during the trip.

The Crew consists of two parts. The first part are professional mariners and the second are trainees. The professional part of the crew consists of two relief sections. The reason for these long periods on board is a safety precaution due to sailing a historic square-rigged ship with no prior experience of that type of ship. Each section of fifty trainees will be relieved after each leg of approximately 2 weeks. Enrolling and relieve are planned in different ports all around the Baltic Sea. Four to six trainee positions will be offered to youth from the ports and cities that Götheborg will visit on her expedition. Trainees must have a sailors certificate and those who have not will be registered by the Swedish Maritime Administration.
