This second day in Brazil was a bit of a slow starter. Having been at sea for 30 days there was a real need for local culture and that until the early morning hours. Many crew members were presumably also overwhelmed by the warm welcome offered by the town of Recife, something that could have added to late arrivals. Many a tired eye saw the morning light on board.

Yesterday evening the town had a reception for part of the ship´s standing crew in a Portuguese 17th century fort. Lovely local beverages were served with accompaniments when mingling with local Swedes, Swedish Embassy staff and Brazilians. Also there was a fantastic dance show, performed by the town´s best dance and samba school. Very impressive!

In the morning hour we were also visited by the Brazilin health and medical care authorities. It had not beeen announced beforehand, something that probably contributed to the 18th century “air" on board the “Götheborg" that met these cricical eyes. Quite a few crew members had taken to the coolness on gundeck after their first few hours of Brazil. And with their hammocks slung up here and there, this undoubtedly contributed to the 18th century impression. It would indeed have been most interesting to hear her comments when back at the office.
