European Tour 2023

Götheborg has arrived in Gibraltar

The Götheborg has now arrived in Gibraltar. Due to high winds the arrival was delayed by about an hour, but the ship is now moored in Mid Harbour Marina. We're here over Easter Weekend, 6–10 April, and will be open to visitors all days.

Götheborg has arrived in Gibraltar

Sailing from Sète in southern France, Gibraltar is the second stopover on the European Tour 2023. At arrival the ship saluted Gibraltar with gun salute (eight shots), which was answered by the British Forces Gibraltar (eleven shots). We always try to salute the city that we arrive in as a way to greet the city. By tradition this is done to show friendly intentions, in the old days to show that you empty your cannons and don't pose a threat to the city.

Arrival ceremony

After arrival we were very honoured to welcome on board Mr Vijay Daryanani, Minister for Business, Tourism, Transport & The Port at HM Government of Gibraltar, Commodore Tom Guy, Commander British Forces Gibraltar, John Gio, Captain of the Port, and Kevin Bossino, CEO of Gibraltar Tourist Board, for the traditional exchange of plaques. The plaque from the Götheborg is made from one of the ship's yards, that was on the maiden voyage to China in 2005–2007.

Opening hours and tickets

The ship will be open to visitors during the stopover, and crew will be stationed throughout the ship to answer questions. Tickets can be pre-booked online, and subject to availability it can also be bought at the ship. Prices are £10/12€ for adults and £5/7.5€ for children. Free entry for children 0-4 years old. We're moored at the mid harbour Marina, almost at the end of the pier. Welcome on board!

Meet the owner of Götheborg of Sweden

29 May 2023

Meet the owner and a big heart behind Götheborg of Sweden, the world’s largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship. It was a purchase decision that came from the heart, rather than from rational business thinking, says Stefan Björk, founder and owner of Greencarrier Group and Götheborg of Sweden.

Hamburg – an important portstop for Greencarrier

24 May 2023

Hamburg was specifically chosen as a key stopover for Götheborg as Greencarrier (our owner) opened new offices in Hamburg in April. On Monday, we were very pleased to welcome especially invited customers, partners and friends of Greencarrier Group on board.
