Tar weekend coming up!
Summer is over and the maintenance of our beloved ship is in need of some extra pair of hands! If you have time to spend, and love the dark and musky fragrance of tar?
The first leg of the two-year expedition is between Gothenburg and Helsingborg, and this is the leg to be a part of – if climbing, getting the ship ready, learning about the rig, and taking her for the first run of the year is your thing, that is. And let’s not forget the spectacular departure from the Port of Gothenburg!
Anyone can apply to sail on board Götheborg as a deckhand and experience the unique adventure and life on board a 18th century ship. As a deckhand you sail together with the professional crew, but are not required to have any sailing experience and will get training on board. If this is your dream, don't hesitate to apply to become a deckhand on one of the sailing legs.
The Pioneer Leg, between Gothenburg and Helsingborg will be a lot of fun sailing and there will also be a lot to learn, in harbour and out at sea. Before leaving shore, the ship needs to get ready for a very long voyage. To make the final preparations happen, we need the help of committed deckhands. Yes, that’s you, guys – and we welcome beginners as well as old seadogs.
Also, don’t get fooled by how short the leg looks on the map. We will be making a detour, follow the weather, set as many sails as possible, and really test the ship!
Signing up for the Pioneer Leg will be a great learning experience and an adventure. Life onboard is full of the satisfaction that comes from a job well done, not to mention the suspense when a manouevre requires all hands on deck. Will you join us?

Good news! We will extend the period that we are open to visitors in Eriksberg, Gothenburg. All through September 2023, we will stay open for guided tours on weekends. Opening hours will be 11:00–16:00 and tours will leave once an hour. Welcome on board the world's largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship!
At the end of August, Götheborg of Sweden will attend Sweden’s largest shipping event, Donsö Shipping Meet (DSM). It’s the first time that the ship will attend the event, and it is also the first time that Götheborg will moor at Donsö in the southern archipelago outside of Gothenburg.
