Some changes will be made to the sailing leg from Helsinki to Stockholm, and arrival at the stopover in Stockholm will be moved to a few days later. This is due to a visit to the drydock (in Stockholm) that we want to make with the ship, while we are still in Northern Europe.
Stockholm 11 – 13 July, 2022 (changed from 7 – 13)
The third stopover on the great Asia Expedition 2022/2023 is the capital of Sweden, Stockholm. Götheborg of Sweden will be moored at Skeppsbron and will be open to the public during its stay in Stockholm. Come visit us!
Please note: The Stockholm stopover has been delayed by a few days. This is due to a drydock visit (in Stockholm) that we want to make with the ship, while we are still in Northern Europe. We estimate to arrive in Stockholm 11 July at the latest, but it may also be earlier.
Visit the ship
Come on board the Götheborg! Learn about the history of the East India Companies and the adventures of the original Götheborg that sailed three times to Asia. Hear modern tales of sailing an 18th century ship, and about the exciting expedition to Asia. Welcome on board!
On board Götheborg you will visit the beautiful weather deck with the helm, capstan and ship’s bell. Sundeck offers great views of the ship and masts, and down on gun deck there are ten impressive cannons. Don’t miss the two pieces from the original ship, one piece by the historical cupboard with porcelain and chalk pipes on gun deck, and the other one recessed into the helm.
We have station guiding on board when in port. That means that you follow a marked route around the ship and the ship’s deckhands are stationed in different places around the ship, ready to tell you about the ship, sailing on board and the great Asia Expedition. Come prepared with all your questions!
Shop and Exhibition
Next to the ship you will find our shop where you can buy souvenirs from your visit, as well as an exhibition about the history of the original Götheborg, the building of the replica and the current expedition. Welcome!
Sail with us to and from Stockholm
You can be part of the unique adventure of sailing as a deckhand on board Götheborg. You will experience life on board a 18th century ship and make friends for life. As a deckhand you sail together with the professional crew, are not required to have any sailing experience and will get training on board. Read more about the two sailing legs to and from Stockholm below.
Sailing leg three
The Archipelago Tour
Thousands and thousands of islands within arm’s reach
Beautiful, spectacular and fabulous, sure, but also sea spray and working hard to catch the winds. We will sail through the Helsinki archipelago as well as the Stockholm one, both famous for their beauty. A tour around Åland is in the cards, too.
While the linear distance in itself may be limited, this is actually one of the more extensive legs on the European part of the Asia Expedition 2022/2023. There will be plenty of open sea, or in other words a lot of sailing. We will follow the winds and set as many sails as possible, which is an experience in itself. All in all, this sailing leg might prove to be the experience of a lifetime for the deckhands on board. Could that be you?
Sailing leg four
The Danish leg
Sailing the Baltic Sea
Sailing from the capital of Sweden to that of Denmark, anything could happen. Signing up for the Danish Leg will mean a full week of gorgeous sailing in the beautiful Baltic Sea, climbing the rig, and carrying out your daily chores. One of those, tarring the ship, is not only a lot of fun, it is also a vital task to keep Götheborg of Sweden in shape for what’s to come. There’s no way you could come any closer to the actual life of a deckhand 300 years ago (although, luckily for all of us on board, Götheborg today has all the comforts of modern life, while the original ship did not). But first, you will need to sign up as a deckhand on the Danish Leg. Are you ready?
