Meet the owner and a big heart behind Götheborg of Sweden, the world’s largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship. It was a purchase decision that came from the heart, rather than from rational business thinking, says Stefan Björk, founder and owner of Greencarrier Group and Götheborg of Sweden.
Götheborg will arrive in Hamburg this Friday, the 19th of May. Hamburg was especially selected as a key stopover on the European Tour, as the ship’s owner, the Swedish based logistics company Greencarrier Group, recently opened up new offices for Greencarrier Consolidators in Hamburg.
After a long sailing leg from Gibraltar, we arrived in Jersey to attend the Jersey Boat Show. We had great days in lovely St Helier, and a big interest in visiting the ship. Thank you to everyone who came on board!
Imagine losing your rudder out at sea and sending out a distress call. And then the largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship in the world comes to your rescue. Or in the words of the sailors on the sailing boat: "This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it?"
The Götheborg has now arrived in Gibraltar. Due to high winds the arrival was delayed by about an hour, but the ship is now moored in Mid Harbour Marina. We're here over Easter Weekend, 6–10 April, and will be open to visitors all days.
Thank you, Sète! Our first stopover after leaving Barcelona and the winter period behind was the beautiful town of Sète. We couldn't have asked for a better start to our European Tour 2023. Escale à Sète invited the Götheborg to be the centerpiece of their biennial event celebrating maritime traditions in the Mediterranean. Fortunately, we also arrived just in time for the annual sea urchin festival.
Today tickets are released for our final weekend in Barcelona (18–19 March) and first stopover Sète (23–27 March). We will have open ship with station guiding on board. Come and visit the ship, meet the crew, learn about the history and craftmanship, and hear about life on board an 18th century ship.
At arrival in Gothenburg, Götheborg of Sweden will officially open the city of Gothenburg’s great 400-year jubilee on the 2nd of June 2023 with a gun salute. The ship will also join Gothenburg’s Anniversary Festival in Frihamnen in Gothenburg, 2–5 June.
