Götheborg of Sweden is the world's largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship, an 18th century replica of the original Götheborg that sank outside of Gothenburg in 1745, and will create great attention wherever she goes. The 2nd of June we returned to our home port of Gothenburg to officially open the city of Gothenburg's 400-year jubilee with a gun salute. We also participated in the Jubilee Festival in Frihamnen 2–5 June. During our days in Frihamnen, we had over 7,000 people visiting us on board. Thank you for amazing days!
During the past year we have visited nineteen ports and welcomed 90,000 visitors on board. More than 2,000 articles have been written about us, and millions of people have followed us and engaged with us on social media. Check out this article from photos from each stopover the past year.
Tomorrow, 2 June at 15:00, we will arrive in Gothenburg to officially open the 400-year jubilee with gun salute. Come and welcome us home!! We would of course love to have some company on the water coming into Gothenburg, and welcome boats to join us! Meet the owner and a big heart behind Götheborg of Sweden, the world’s largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship. It was a purchase decision that came from the heart, rather than from rational business thinking, says Stefan Björk, founder and owner of Greencarrier Group and Götheborg of Sweden.
Hamburg was specifically chosen as a key stopover for Götheborg as Greencarrier (our owner) opened new offices in Hamburg in April. On Monday, we were very pleased to welcome especially invited customers, partners and friends of Greencarrier Group on board.
Götheborg will arrive in Hamburg this Friday, the 19th of May. Hamburg was especially selected as a key stopover on the European Tour, as the ship’s owner, the Swedish based logistics company Greencarrier Group, recently opened up new offices for Greencarrier Consolidators in Hamburg.
After a long sailing leg from Gibraltar, we arrived in Jersey to attend the Jersey Boat Show. We had great days in lovely St Helier, and a big interest in visiting the ship. Thank you to everyone who came on board!
We have now opened ticket sales for both the stopover in Rotterdam and in Hamburg. In Rotterdam we are open 11th–14th of May and in Hamburg 20th–21st of May. Prebook your tickets online to save your spot on board! Subject to availability tickets are also sold at the ship.
Imagine losing your rudder out at sea and sending out a distress call. And then the largest ocean-going wooden sailing ship in the world comes to your rescue. Or in the words of the sailors on the sailing boat: "This moment was very strange, and we wondered if we were dreaming. Where were we? What time period was it?"
The Götheborg has now arrived in Gibraltar. Due to high winds the arrival was delayed by about an hour, but the ship is now moored in Mid Harbour Marina. We're here over Easter Weekend, 6–10 April, and will be open to visitors all days.
Thank you, Sète! Our first stopover after leaving Barcelona and the winter period behind was the beautiful town of Sète. We couldn't have asked for a better start to our European Tour 2023. Escale à Sète invited the Götheborg to be the centerpiece of their biennial event celebrating maritime traditions in the Mediterranean. Fortunately, we also arrived just in time for the annual sea urchin festival.
