Come cellebrate with us

National day and reopening of the Ships hall and brand-new Café!

On June 6, it's happening!

There aren't many places on Hisingen to celebrate the Swedish National Day. This year, we're making a big deal out of it by celebrating National Day with both a salute and a flag ceremony. We're combining this with the inauguration of our newly renovated Ship’s Hall and the brand-new café!

Why not enjoy a brewed coffee and an ice cream with us?

In addition to our guided tours (which can be booked via the website here), we have porcelain painting where you can create your own China-inspired bowl. Why not dress up and take a photo with our amazing Supercargo? Or settle into the drawing- or reading corner? We also have face painting and a tattoo studio, with an age limit of 1 year, and with parental consent!

We're celebrating National Day together with Älvsborg, Oscar II's Fort, and GKSS in Långedrag. In Långedrag, you can visit our tent with a shop and information, and you'll also have the chance to meet our bosun and carpenter who will show and sail one of our ship's boats! GKSS has a full program where you can try sailing, a classic regatta, police, coast guard, Amf 4 combat boat display, and much more!

Styrsöbolaget will run with the boat Kungsö between Stenpiren, Eriksberg, Nya Älsborg, and Långedrag during the day. A ferry ride costs 50 SEK, and children under 12 travel free. See schedule below.

If you like salutes, you'll have the opportunity to witness several during the day, as it's not just us firing a salute at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM; Oscar II's Fort will also fire at 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM, and 3:00 PM. Skansen Lejonet will fire at 1:00 PM and Nya Älvsborg at 02.00 PM as well.

For the GKSS National Day program, see here.

The East Indiaman will become part of a public experience center at Masthuggskajen.

28 April 2026

Greencarrier and the City of Gothenburg have agreed on their ambition to create a long-term home for the East Indiaman at Masthuggskajen. The goal is for the ship to play a central role in a new historical experience center, planned for completion in 2031, and to help create a more vibrant waterfront promenade near Järntorget.

THE FRIENDS OF THE EAST INDIAMAN GÖTHEBORG INVITE YOU TO A WONDERFUL EVENING 19 MARS 18:00

19 March 2026

During the evening we will be joined by Mats Berggren, who during the construction period represented the Swedish Maritime Administration as a determined and persistent inspector, and Marie-Louise Edholm, who took part in building the rigging, has sailed with the ship, and has been responsible for the maintenance of the rig. You will gain insight into traditional craftsmanship, material choices, and the many challenges involved in combining historical authenticity with modern safety and operational requirements. If you were involved during this period, perhaps you have a story of your own to share. We would love to hear it! About halfway through the lecture, coffee and pastries will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go directly toward the re-rigging of the ship. Registration is free of charge. Please register by emailing: vanner@gotheborg.se A warm welcome! The Friends of East Indiaman Götheborg Association
