How to make a new yard

The main yard on the ship Götheborg is 23 meters long and weighs 1.7 tonnes – and we're making a new one! In this video, our carpenter Manne explains the work being done in our workshop in Gothenburg.

Making a new main yard for Götheborg involves great craftmanship and many hours of hard work: From cutting down two massive douglas fir trees, to joining them together, making the yard straight, and putting on iron rings to make it stable. 

In total we're making six new yards in preparations for the Asia expedition in 2022/2023. The main yard is the biggest.

Gothenburg is getting its very own version of Monopoly, and we at the Ostindiefararen Götheborg are honored to host the release party for the game! 🎉 27th of June 11:00-16:00 Come meet Mr. Monopoly, get the game before anyone else, and enjoy a fun-filled day on the pier. We're looking for volunteers next week!

Spring is truly here, and we’ve started getting ready to rig all three topmasts. We’re now looking for help with applying tar to the standing rigging. You’re welcome to join us for anything from a full week to just half a day. Unfortunately, we can’t offer accommodation, but we do provide lunch and have work clothes available. Please bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty to wear underneath, depending on the weather. If you’re interested, please send an email to volunteer@gotheborg.se
