Great days at the Jubilee Festival

The 2nd of June we returned to our home port of Gothenburg to officially open the city of Gothenburg's 400-year jubilee with a gun salute. We also participated in the Jubilee Festival in Frihamnen 2–5 June, our last official stopover on the European Tour 2023. During our days in Frihamnen, we had over 7,000 people visiting us on board. Thank you for amazing days!

The Jubilee Festival was the start of the city of Gothenburg's 400-year jubilee, and what an amazing four days we had!! Sunshine, music, performances, circus, activities and thousands of people.

The ship Götheborg was visible already from the other side of the bridge, Hisingsbron, and everyone who arrived to the festival on the water came really close up, as the ferries stopped just behind the ship.

On the quayside next to the ship, Tordenskiöldarna had built an 18th century village with lots of activities, and Repslagarmuseet were on site to show the art of rope making. Altogether this made for a great atmosphere with games, music and fun.

During our days in Frihamnen we had several events on board, and the ship was also open to visitors, who could walk around and have a look at the ship. In total we welcomed 7,000 visitors on board in just those few short days. Thank you to everyone who came on board!

Ostindiefararen’s Auction Day – September 12, 11:00–16:00

13 August 2025

Ostindiefararen Götheborg invites you to a unique charity auction, in collaboration with AntikWest, supporting cultural heritage and the preservation of the ship’s history. This day also commemorates the anniversary of the original Götheborg’s sinking—on September 12, 1745, the ship ran aground just outside Gothenburg after a long voyage from China. We’re opening the gates to Ostindiefararen’s pier, and throughout the day entry is free—both to the ship and all Auction Day activities. If you’d like to place bids during the auction, you can purchase a bidder’s ticket. Founded in 1971 by Björn Gremner, AntikWest is one of Gothenburg’s most respected antique dealers specializing in Chinese porcelain. On this special day, we offer exclusive and unique items, many with fascinating connections to the voyages of the Swedish East India Company in the 1700s, as well as treasures directly linked to Ostindiefararen Götheborg. Don’t miss the chance to meet Björn Gremner, a leading expert on Chinese porcelain and a regular on the Swedish Antikrundan (Antiques Roadshow), as he shares captivating stories about porcelain’s journey through history. You’ll also have the opportunity to attend a book talk and signing with author Lars-Olof Lööf, presenting his book Sailors and Supercargoes—a detailed account of the seafarers of the Swedish East India Company (SOIC). Reserve your free ticket via the button below! (All auction proceeds go toward the preservation and future development of Ostindiefararen Götheborg.) Program 11:00 – Opening: Appraisals on the pier (bring your own items!) 12:00 – Lecture by Lars-Olof Lööf: The Journey of Porcelain and East India Stories 13:00 – Live Auction with gavel – led by Björn Gremner 14:30 – Book signing with Lars-Olof Lööf All day: 10:00–16:00 – Free entry to Ostindiefararen Götheborg with online ticket 10:00–16:00 – Café & gift shop open We look forward to a day filled with history, treasures, and inspiring encounters!
