Name: Hanna Nejstgaard
Position: Guide
Describe yourself in three words.
Happy, efficient and creative.
How did you become a guide on Götheborg of Sweden?
I started volunteering in 2014 for one week and came back for another week. I got the opportunity to sail in 2015 and came to Dover to embark. On the second day I was there, I was asked to give a guided tour to a bunch of photographers. I had only been on board for a day and a half, but I managed to do it! After that, I sailed for two weeks and I continued volunteering on and off until 2017. Then they asked me if I wanted to work as a guide during the summer and I have been here ever since.
What is the best part of being a guide?
The best part of being a guide is to talk about the things that I love and get paid for it 😉.
I love the history, craftsmanship and friendship. The sense of adventure of being on board and just be able to convey this pretty specific part of an adventure that I have had the opportunity to be on and make people excited about doing things like this. That is one of the best parts of being a guide.
What is your favourite memory so far?
I don’t have a specific one in particular. But my favourite thing is when you have a guided tour and there are young kids who are really happy to hear what you have to say and you feel like you can educate, pass on your knowledge and that they are interested and want to hear more. That is one of the most rewarding things for me!
What would you say to convince people to pay us a visit?
If you haven’t been visiting us, why haven’t you? 😉 It is an important historical landmark of Gothenburg and it’s a unique experience. You get to learn and see so much, from local history, craftsmanship to other fun facts, like how to measure a knot. You will experience something really special. This ship is unique, and it is here! You have to see it!
