EKN and Vinnova join Götheborg as partners to promote Swedish export

Two great stakeholders in Swedish export and innovation, EKN and Vinnova, have partnered with Götheborg as she is about to set sail on a two-year voyage across the world. The ship will serve as a platform to promote trade and a message of sustainable innovations in a most unique and beautiful way.

EKN and Vinnova join Götheborg as partners to promote Swedish export

The Swedish Export and Credit Agency (EKN), is commissioned by the Swedish government to promote Swedish business abroad, by insuring export companies and banks against the risk of non-payment in export transactions. We are proud to announce that EKN has joined as partner to the Asia Expedition 2022/2023, and that the organisation hails the history of the ship as a great symbol for Swedish trade, and the fact that this new expedition will create unique meeting places across the world for Swedish businesses. EKN is partnering to offer attractive financing solutions and promoting Swedish exports.

“We are really pleased to have EKN and Vinnova onboard. They are important to Swedish trade, and we look forward to providing a platform where their relevant markets are.”
– Kristoffer Bennis, Expedition Director, Götheborg of Sweden.

With a focus on Asia, Vinnova will be working towards promoting Swedish innovation in India foremost, primarily driving the message of sustainable solutions to create a better future. As Sweden’s innovation agency, Vinnova works to enhance their collaboration with India and the blossoming innovative market there. India has over 100 unicorns, and many more are being born all the time. Götheborg will be arriving at a good time for Swedish businesses and innovators to connect with this market, and in turn promote Swedish collaborations and sustainable innovations.

During the 2022 part of the Asia Expedition, EKN will focus on the stopover in London. Vinnova will join as partner to an event hosted by Götheborg of Sweden and Dagens Industri, to be held on the departure day from Gothenburg, 8 June 2022. The event will focus on new business opportunities for Swedish companies, and how innovation and sustainability are key to the growth of Swedish companies in international markets.

After the ship leaves Gothenburg it will sail to Helsingborg, Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, London, Bremerhaven and Lisbon. After that it will head in to the Mediterranean and make four more stops before stopping for winter. In spring 2023 it will continue to Asia.

Asia Expedition 2022/2023
Götheborg will depart from Gothenburg 8 June 2022, and will arrive in Shanghai in September 2023. During the expedition, the ship will sail in the Baltic Sea and Northern Europe before continuing to the Mediterranean. During winter 2022/2023 the ship will remain in the Mediterranean. It will continue to Asia in spring 2023. The mission for the Asia Expedition is to promote trade relations and use the ship as a unique platform for businesses and partners, to create business opportunities.

Greencarrier
In 2019 the Swedish logistics company Greencarrier acquired SOIC Ship Management, that operates the ship Götheborg, and thereby secured financing of the expedition to Asia. Spring 2020 Greencarrier also acquired the ship. Behind the decision lies a long-term interest in and commitment to the ship Götheborg, and the conviction that the ship is built to sail and therefore should do that.

Short facts: The ship Götheborg – history
The Götheborg is a full-sized replica of an 18th century ship, that was owned by the Swedish East India Company, and that ran aground and sank outside of Gothenburg in 1745. In 1984 marine excavation of the original ship Götheborg was initiated and in 1995 the building of a new Götheborg was started. Eight years later, in 2003, the ship was launched, and between 2005-2007 the ship sailed the historical route to Asia and back. After that several expeditions around Europe were carried out, the latest one in 2015. In 2021 the ship sailed from Gothenburg to Stockholm and back.
