The ship Götheborg of Sweden is returning to Stockholm on the Asia Expedition 2022/2023. Stockholm is the third stopover on the expedition, and the last Swedish city that the ship will visit before heading on to Asia. Götheborg will be in Stockholm 7–13 July 2022, and will be moored at Skeppsbrokajen in the Old Town, close to the royal castle.

Götheborg of Sweden has been in Stockholm, where the original ship was once built, a number of times. Most famously, the ship was part of the royal wedding festivities in 2010, when HRH Crown Princess Victoria married. Last year, in 2021, the ship visited Stockholm for ten days.
“ When we visited Stockholm last year, we had limited possibilities to welcome visitors on board the ship, due to Covid-19”, said Kristoffer Bennis, Expedition Director at Götheborg of Sweden. “This time, we are excited to open up to the public and many more visitors on board. As Stockholm is the last Swedish city that we visit on the Asia Expedition 2022/2023, the people of Stockholm will also get the opportunity to wish the ship fair winds from all of Sweden.“
The ship will be moored at Skeppsbrokajen, in the same prime location as in 2021, and will stay for a week.
“ It is great to once again welcome back the ship Götheborg of Sweden to Skeppsbron this summer“, said Caroline Strand, CEO at Visit Stockholm. “The city is looking forward to a very busy season. This visit will be yet another reason to enjoy summer in Stockholm. This time as the last stop before the long voyage to Asia.”
As Stockholm is announced as the third stopover on the Asia Expedition 2022/2023, the possibility to apply to sail along as a deckhand on board on the third sailing leg, from Helsinki to Stockholm, is also opened up. To sail the ship, a crew of 70 people is needed. About 20 persons are professional crew. The other 50 are deckhands, who are members of the public that sail along for the adventure, experience and opportunity to learn how to sail an 18th century ship.
Götheborg will leave Helsinki the 27th of June and arrive in Stockholm on the 7th of July. This makes the sailing leg between Helsinki and Stockholm into a one of the longer sailing legs, a nine-day sailing adventure, where the ship will get to follow the weather and winds to use its full potential.
Asia Expedition 2022/2023
Götheborg will depart from Gothenburg 8 June 2022, and arrive in Shanghai in September 2023. The ship will sail the Baltic Sea and Northern Europe, before it continues to the Mediterranean. During winter 2022/2023 the ship will remain in the Mediterranean. It will sail to Asia in spring 2023. The mission for the Asia Expedition is to promote trade relations and use the ship as a unique platform for businesses and partners, and to promote solutions for a sustainable future.
Short facts: The ship Götheborg – history

Eight years later, in 2003, the ship was launched, and between 2005-2007 the ship sailed the historical route to Asia and back. After that several expeditions around Europe were carried out, the latest one in 2015. In 2021 the ship sailed from Gothenburg to Stockholm and back.
