Barcelona is our winter stopover, and we will stay until March 2023. During this stopover we will focus a lot on preparations for sailing in 2023. It is possible to join us as a volunteer on board to work with the maintenance of the ship. In addition to being open every day in December, we also plan to be open to visitors during weekends in January, February and March. Welcome on board!
Visiting Götheborg of Sweden
Götheborg is fascinating and unique – a ship loaded with experience. A genuine working ship with a vibrant history, scarred by harsh storms and marked by thousands upon thousands of nautical miles on the seven seas. Here visitors get to learn everything from captivating stories of sailing to the tremendous art of shipbuilding, in a contemporary 18th-century environment.
Volunteering on board
During our winter stopover, we are welcoming volunteers on board, to work with the maintenance of the ship. The main job will be caulking outside of the hull, above the water line. We will also be re-tightening the wooldings of the bowsprit and other jobs will also be taking place. And of course, a lot of taring of the standing rigging to preserve it from rain and sun is necessary.
The East Indiaman will become part of a public experience center at Masthuggskajen.
Greencarrier and the City of Gothenburg have agreed on their ambition to create a long-term home for the East Indiaman at Masthuggskajen. The goal is for the ship to play a central role in a new historical experience center, planned for completion in 2031, and to help create a more vibrant waterfront promenade near Järntorget.
