European Tour 2023
Thank you Jersey and Jersey Boat Show
After a long sailing leg from Gibraltar, we arrived in Jersey to attend the Jersey Boat Show. We had great days in lovely St Helier, and a big interest in visiting the ship. Thank you to everyone who came on board!
After a cold and rainy arrival (but with dolphins jumping at the bow, which brightened up the rainy day) to St Helier in Jersey, the rest of the stopover treated us to weather that only improved every day.
We were in Jersey as part of Jersey Boat Show, and we had a great five days with a continuous stream of visitors on board and great support from the Boat Show organisation. Thank you everyone who came on board!
One of the days we were invited to sing shanties by the main stage, and the crew members on board did an amazing job! If you are curious, there is a short clip of the shanty performance posted on our social media accounts.
Just two days before our arrival to Jersey, the Götheborg also helped rescue a small sailing boat and tow it to the French coast. An adventure for both the crew on Götheborg and the sailing boat. Read the full story here.
Due to the big tides in Jersey, we had to very carefully time our arrival and departure times. Therefore, we left at 6am in the morning on the 2nd of May, with a few early risers coming to wave us off. For those who did make it to the quayside, the gorgeous morning light made it well worth it.
The East Indiaman will become part of a public experience center at Masthuggskajen.
Greencarrier and the City of Gothenburg have agreed on their ambition to create a long-term home for the East Indiaman at Masthuggskajen. The goal is for the ship to play a central role in a new historical experience center, planned for completion in 2031, and to help create a more vibrant waterfront promenade near Järntorget.
